Oracle (Autonomous) Analytics Cloud Services (GEN2)

The Oracle Analytics Cloud Service (OACS) is a Platform as a Service (PaaS) which is scalable, highly reliable and secure public cloud service that offers comprehensive analytics capabilities to explore and perform collaborative analytics at any scale, in any environment, and on any device for your enterprise.

The main difference between Gen1 and Gen2 is how you deploy and manage your services on Oracle Cloud. It Provides businesses with better Performance, Pricing and moreover with Its incredible security features.

Below, we have difference between Gen1 & Gen2 cloud computers.

                                                            GEN 1                                       GEN 2
                                                                             Fig 1 :- Gen1 & Gen2 cloud computers

To protect our Gen2 cloud, Secure Infrastructure requires New Hardware & New software.

           1. “Star Wars” defences Impenetrable Barriers (or) Force Fields.
           2.  Autonomous Robots.
               a. Impenetrable Barrier – It is having dedicated network of cloud control computers of which one user can’t access another user’s data and Oracle also can’t access customer data. No customer access to cloud control computers and memory.
                 b. Autonomous Robots – It uses AI/ML robots that find threats and kill them and stops data theft. No delay for Human Process (or) Downtime window.

In Gen2, Oracle made the decision to add a completely different layer of computer networks to the cloud control code and has kept it separate from tenant infrastructure. We can have multiple customers in the same Bare Metal computer because in these servers only User code is available.

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure: -

OCI, is the new improved cloud infrastructure with hardware & software changes. Gen2 cloud doesn’t having analytics services and having Bare Metal computers, Load Balancers and Exadata machines.

Here is the detailed view of Gen2 cloud Infrastructure :-

Fig 2 :- Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

It is provided with Exadata machines that individual customers access individually and provide isolation for user control codes. Bare Metal computers are key part of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

All Oracle Cloud Infrastructure regions offer core infrastructure services like: -

                          a. Compute: - Bare Metal Compute (Intel based Bare Metal) and block storage outperforms other clouds.
                    b. Eliminates resource investment from compute, memory, RDMA network. Delivers highest performance for enterprise, cloud native and HPC workloads.
                            c. Storage: - Block Volume, File Storage, Object Storage, Archive Storage.
                        d. Database:- Database, Exadata Cloud Service, Autonomous Data Warehouse, Autonomous                           Transaction Processing.
                            e. Pricing is comparatively low than AWS services and data transfer is much faster with very low latency (1.5 µs).
                          f. Edge Security: - DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service), DNS, WAF (Web Application Firewall).
                           g. Network Security: - Cloud Control Computers provided with Private encryption.

Dedicated Exadata Cloud Infrastructure:-

Fig 3 :- Exadata Cloud Infrastructure

      1. Oracle is the first cloud platform to produce Bare metal RDMA network (Remote Data Multiple Access). These are provided with high frequency Processors to support HPC workloads.
        2. Here we are having servers, storage under “Bare metal” user control computer while Cloud control code is maintained by “CCC” to provide customer data safe and isolates others.

Note:- In view of security, Oracle doesn’t going to keep Customer Control code along with User Control Code.

CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITY:-

                   a. In GEN2, there is no need of creating additional database cloud service and also no need to maintain its administration by the User.
                      b. Back up and restore services was managed by Oracle.
                      c. Patch services and Patch Operating system was maintained by oracle.
                          d. There is no Start and Stop services in GEN2.

Autonomous Database:-

The most important key component of Gen2 Cloud is “Autonomous Database”.
It lays foundation to World’s first fully Autonomous Database and Extensible Platform for SaaS Applications. Moreover, Easy free push button upgrade from Gen1 to Gen2 Database is provided. You can run Enterprise applications & also build Cloud Native Applications.

Fig 4 :- Oracle Autonomous Database
Autonomous Database runs on Exadata and is having bunch of Autonomous as a way to
                           a.  Automate Provisioning & Scaling,
                           b.  Automatically Tune Database,
                           c.  Automate Security,
                           d. Automatic Fault Tolerant Failover and
                           e. Automatic Backup and Recovery.

         I.  Automatic Provisioning & Scaling :-

                    a. It adds & deletes CPU’s, servers, storage even while running according to the  requirement.
                    b. It makes use of RAC (Real Application Cluster) for scale-out database.
                c. Need no longer to pay for the servers whilst now not walking. So that it reduces the invoice to half of of the amount which you pay to other databases.

        II.  Automatic Security :-

a. With its top notch overall performance of impenetrable barriers & Autonomous Robots, it routinely detects threats.
b. Stops admin snooping with DB Vault, encrypts all statistics.
c. Security Patching and remediation while database is running that can’t be completed by other cloud service providers.
d. It is expected that most downtime is much less than 2.5 minutes per month.

III. Automatic Fault Tolerant Failover, Backup & Recovery :-

a. No human labour concerned. So no human errors will arise with a purpose to enhance reliability of systems.
b. Oracle keeps to run database whilst server/software failure happens which can’t be executed via other cloud provider companies.

           IV. Optimization:-

a.  ML optimizes database for each Workload, data formats, indexes, parallelism and plans for each workload.

The figures deals with performance variations with respect to AWS:-

OCI
AWS
Compute 2.57 TFLOP’S
Compute 1.77 TFLOP’S
153 GB of memory
134 GB of memory
5,00,000 IOPS
80,000 IOPS
50 Gbps of network provided
25 Gbps of network provided

                                                             Fig 5 :- Performance Variation

The adventure of creating Autonomous Database and Optimizing Database was established with complete Infrastructure Automation and additionally presented Exadata cloud administration.

Examine, to comprehend what is the progressions in every age:-
Fig 6 :- Journey of Developing Autonomous Database.
Advantages:-
           a.  New cloud architecture with security built-in from Core to Edge.
           b. Easy to upgrade from Gen1 to Gen2 and supports better functionality.
           c. Easy to Move Enterprise Workloads to cloud.
          d. Autonomous database that reduces human errors and Manual work process.
          e. Cost is comparitively low from other service providers.
          f. Automate migration without risk and high cost.
